When it comes to events, Steamboat’s summer calendar is jam-packed. We asked our Concierge to pick a few of their favorites.
Some mountain towns have so many summer festivals that the season becomes a dizzying array of events. While Steamboat has its fair share of happenings, the nice thing about our community is we hold onto our traditions. That means the events we do host have been going on for years and aren’t just another excuse to encourage summer tourism. The truth is, people don’t need an excuse to come to Steamboat. Here are some local’s favorites you might want to keep in mind when planning your summer visit.
Yampa River Fest
June 3, 2017
If you want to attend a real local’s event, this is it. The Yampa River is at the heart of the town in more ways than one. This is a true celebration of the last remaining major wild river in the Colorado River Basin to raise awareness for the need to protect this 270-mile jewel. Whether you’re a hardcore kayaker, fly fisherman, white water rafter, stand up paddleboarder, or someone who likes to float down the Yampa on a hot summer day in an inflatable raft, this celebration is for all breeds of river enthusiast. Now in its 37th year, the 2017 festival features downriver races, freestyle competitions, the SUP Cup, crazy river dog contest, tubing, raft races and more.
Steamboat Marathon
June 4, 2017
Hardcore fitness is an integral part of the Steamboat lifestyle, so it makes sense that we would host a marathon. It’s also not surprising that the Steamboat Marathon was ranked as one of the “Top 10 Destination Marathons in North America” because of the epic scenery. Runners follow a course along the Elk River and through the bucolic green pastures on County Road 129 surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Flat Tops mountain range. If you’re going to run 26.2 miles, you might as well do it in a pretty place. Not into full marathons? Opt for the half marathon or 10k and call it a day—you’ll still get a free t-shirt. Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup
June 15 -17, 2017
Looking for the perfect thing to do on Father’s Day? Now in its 29th year, this long-standing Steamboat tradition attracts more than 450 Mustang owners from all over the Rocky Mountain West for a weekend-long celebration of America’s favorite muscle car. The festivities kick off with the popular Autocross race, with over 180 Mustangs competing in this timed event. There’s also a Friday night social (people who own Mustangs love to talk about Mustangs), scenic mountain tour, Show n’ Shine Car Show, and awards breakfast. A great way to enjoy this event is with a causal stroll up and down Lincoln Avenue where over 450 Ford Mustangs are on display for a casual, fun, (and free) way to enjoy Dad’s day.
Parking? Not an issue when you ride The Porches shuttle. Contact our Concierge to arrange transportation to and from these fabulous summer events.
