How one couple found their home away from home at The Porches…
So often we hear a similar story of how our Porches owners fell in love with Steamboat and began looking for a home here… eventually leading them to join The Porches family. For this Bernese mountain dog loving couple they found their ideal home away from home is our pet-friendly, fractional unit. For Dan, Pat, & Rosie (their pup) the flexibility of The Porches fractional ownership program allows them to come spend a few weeks a year in Steamboat without the hassle of maintaining a home.
And just as with all of our other owners they’ve quickly become a part of our community, with their Bernese, Rosie, really winning over the hearts of our staff and other owners.
Tell us about your family:
Pat and I are long-time residents of Des Moines, Iowa. We both attended Drake Law School and we’re still associated with Drake: Pat is on the faculty of The Law School Legal Clinic and I serve on the Drake Board of Trustees. We enjoy golf, hiking, biking, and spending free time in Steamboat!
What brought you to Steamboat?
We both started coming out to Steamboat before we knew each other. Pat would come out on ski trips, and I would vacation with family and stay in a condo owned by some friends right next door to The Porches. After we met, it was only natural to keep visiting Steamboat, which we did for more than ten years, staying with our friends or renting houses, before deciding to buy.
What do you love about Steamboat?
We love the mountains, and Steamboat is an ideal combination of easy access to trails, bike paths, and wilderness areas, along with really great amenities: restaurants, golf, art and music festivals, and others.
What activities do you enjoy in Steamboat?
We often enjoy an early morning visit to Rita Valentine Park with Rosie, our Bernese mountain dog. We also enjoy a good, long hike or a round of golf, followed by a visit to the pool and hot tub at the Barn.
How did you find The Porches?
We’d driven by The Porches many times over the years and had even stopped and talked with Beth about ownership. We always thought The Porches would be a great option, but until a couple of years ago, we just didn’t feel like we had enough free time to justify owning a place in Steamboat. As our schedules began to relax a bit (and as pet-friendly rentals became increasingly expensive and difficult to find), we decided to get serious about owning, and found the fractional program to be a really great option for us.
What do you enjoy about The Porches experience so far?
The people: the staff is tremendously helpful, and the other homeowners we’ve met are very friendly and down-to-earth. The convenience: we love not having to worry about maintaining a second home. When we come out, we just walk in and we’re ready to enjoy vacation and it feels like home away from home. The location: being located between the ski area and downtown is really convenient to everything.
