As summer starts to wind down, there are still plenty of events happening in the ‘Boat!
Summer may be coming to an end and kids are heading back to school, but there is still plenty of fun to be had. The month of August brings together festivals for theatre, music and movement with events capturing Steamboat’s genuine Western heritage and traditions.
Can’t Miss Events:
Piknik Theatre Festival:
July 27th through August 12th
A fun and artful event, the Great American Laughing Stock Company brings the Piknik Theatre Festival to parks around Steamboat. On various dates through August 12th you can pack a picnic and head to the park to watch one of two performances, A Midsummer Nights Dream or The Bee Man of Orn. These free performances are a wonderful way to spend a warm, summer afternoon.
Steamboat Movement Festival:
August 9th through 12th
A weekend filled with yoga, live music, and outdoor adventures showcases the talents of local and regional artists and yogis. This four-day event embraces the beauty of Steamboat in the summer while allowing participants to escape into the outdoors and embrace their inner adventurers.
Routt County Fair:
August 16th through the 19th
The Routt County Fair has been a Steamboat tradition since 1914. This family event offers entertainment for both locals and visitors alike. Bull riding, horse racing, a 4-H/FFA livestock show and auction are just a few of this year’s attractions. With so many great events to see, below are a few of the most popular.
Home Arts Exhibits: Over 1,300 individuals come together to showcase their talents in baking, photography, woodworking, craft brewing, and more.
Demolition Derby and Lawnmower Tractor Races: This event is exactly what is sounds like! There’s a reason that it sells out every year, so be sure to get your tickets sooner rather than later.
Barn Dance ft. Caleb Austin: A live country music event that allows you to dust off your boots and practice your two-step.
Vettes on the Rockies:
August 23rd through August 26th
Steamboat is becoming quite the destination for car collectors and enthusiasts! The Looking Glass Corvette Association and Vettes on the Rockies are celebrating their 45th anniversary right here in Steamboat. A speed-driving race complete with tactical maneuvering will kick off the weekend in the Meadows parking lot on Friday morning.
Spectators hoping to get up close and personal with the corvettes should head down to Lincoln Ave where the road will be shut down for a ‘Show n’ Shine’ on Saturday.
