Steamboat kicks off 2018 with a bang and plenty of great events!
As the holiday season winds down and we head into 2018, Steamboat is sure to keep the celebration going with truly unique events that showcase the spirit of the Yampa Valley.
Can’t Miss Events:
Gather around as 6 hot air balloons light up the night sky and spread warmth through the base area. Spectators are able to walk through the balloons and experience their magnificence up close. Afterwards head to one of the slope side restaurants for dinner or hit the slopes for a bit of night skiing fun.
The 44th Annual Cowboy Downhill is an event that truly lets Steamboat’s western heritage shine. None other than Billy the Kid, Steamboat’s Director of Skiing, and Larry Mahan, six-time all-around world champion cowboy, dreamed up the event. Today the event hosts over 100 Pro Rodeo cowboys as they compete in a downhill slalom and stampede.
Spectators gather in the base area to enjoy the 4H petting zoo, the learn to rope clinic, and live music by Waterloo Revival.
Steamboat Dance Theater Annual Concert: January 25th, 26th, & 27th
A true local favorite! The Steamboat Dance Theater is an organization committed to bringing a culture of dance to the Yampa Valley. They host events throughout the year but by far the most impressive event is their Annual Community Dance Concert where locals of all ages come together to put on a spectacular show. Be sure to buy tickets early as this event sells out every year!
Olympian Send Off: January 27th
Join Steamboat locals in Gondola Square for a warm sendoff of our athletes as they embark on their Olympic journey. This event is followed by fireworks, a flag parade, and lighting of the community cauldron.
