How one world travelling family found their new home in Steamboat Springs
A small community located in the northwest corner of Colorado, Steamboat is a place unlike any other you will visit. Our small-town charm and Western hospitality are a large part of what makes this a special place to live, but there is so much more to Steamboat than that. Tucked away just 400 yards from the base of the ski area sits a community that embodies Steamboat’s welcoming spirit. The Porches of Steamboat, a 20-acre neighborhood, featuring beautiful 4- and 5-bedroom homes, offers an unparalleled experience to our guests and owners.
After their first trip to Steamboat, one world travelling family knew this was the place for them. Since they became Porches owners, the D’Attoma family has enjoyed spending their time experiencing all that Steamboat has to offer.
Tell us about your family…
We are a family of four from Alexandria, Virginia, however we are not sure how our children would respond to that question since they spent their formative years in Cairo, Egypt and Brussels, Belgium. Currently, our son Cory, a rising Senior and our daughter Claire, a rising Sophomore, both attend the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Both are actively engaged in the school. Cory has migrated from being a campus tour guide for visiting students to a Senior Interviewer of student applicants. He is also on the Moot Court and Ultimate Frisbee teams. Meanwhile, Claire’s time is largely devoted to the Varsity Crew team. As a family, we have enjoyed many years traveling together around Africa and Europe and now look forward to spending our time together enjoying Steamboat and the many activities the town and Routt County have to offer.
What brought you to Steamboat?
Friends from Belgium, now living in Virginia, graciously offered their second home in Steamboat to us during the Fall of 2018. After dropping off the kids at college, and officially becoming empty nesters, we headed west, visiting several cities and friends along the way. We had planned to use the Steamboat house as a base to explore the west and find a place to purchase a second home. While we sort of did our due diligence, traveling around Colorado and Utah, we pretty much knew Steamboat was the place for us from the get go.
What do you love about living here? Activities that you enjoy?
We love the community here, the people are friendly, thoughtful, and kind. Steamboat is a real town first, with a ski resort feel and so much more. We love the size of the community, the many good restaurants, the endless trails, the Yampa river, the cycling opportunities, and the year-round fun. It seems that every day somebody is telling us about a new trail to hike or road route to bike or fun activity to do. Steamboat is never done offering more to do.
How did you find The Porches?
While staying at our friend’s home, we biked, walked, and drove by The Porches daily. We visited an open house when we first arrived and immediately loved The Porches. We dreamed of living in the beautiful homes with their quality construction, kind people at the Barn, good location and endless amenities. That said, we did our research, but when decision time came, we headed back to the Porches.
What do you enjoy about the Porches experience so far?
The Porches has so much to offer, the beauty of the property and homes, the location related to the slopes and the town as well as the amenities. But what really makes the community special is the people.
