Bringing coffee from around the world to Steamboat Springs.
“Life is better with a cup of coffee”… a statement John Kuhn, founder of Steamboat Coffee Company, has built his business upon. Working with a team of individuals with decades of experience between them has brought this company to life. Their passion and knowledge has allowed them to source coffee beans from around the world to be roasted right here in the Yampa Valley for the past 5 years.
Today, the team at Steamboat Coffee Company has seven different blends originating from Latin American, Central America, Indonesia, Africa, and Guatemala. Cultivating relationships with their farmers has been an important part of the process, which can be seen in their Guatemala Single Origin Coffee. The beans in this roast are from a small group of coffee farmers in Yepocapa, Guatemala whose focus is on quality over quantity.
A great cup of coffee is more than just the beans and the roasting style; it’s a simple ritual that can bring people together. This is something that John has made apparent in his commitment to the community. It is not uncommon to see Steamboat Coffee Company at the Farmer’s Market, Free Coffee Friday, and other events in Steamboat. Visit one of these events and you are also likely to run into John himself, an energetic spirit that embodies the Steamboat spirit.
The Porches is proud to serve Steamboat Coffee Company blends in The Barn each and every day. We cannot even begin to tell you the rave reviews we have had and the pleasure we have had working with this company.
Tell
us about yourself:
I’ve lived in Steamboat
for 7 years, originally from St. Louis. I worked for a Fortune 500 company
right out of college and then started a financial advisory business selling it
after 15 years in that industry.
What do you love about living in the Yampa Valley?
I love being in the Yampa Valley for horseback riding in the summer and like many, skiing in the winter. I love all the sunshine we get, and really like being outdoors as much as possible.
Why
did you decide to start Steamboat Coffee Company?
I started Steamboat
Coffee Company 5 years ago as an answer to the question, why is there so
much other resort community (Vail, Telluride, and Denver) coffee in Steamboat?
I thought we should have our own, and be better than anything else available
here.
Tell us about your business:
We roast in the style of an Artisanal Craft Roaster in small batches with beans from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Columbia and some African beans namely from Ethiopia, Kenya and a beautiful Peaberry from Tanzania.
Any plans for the future?
We have a new corporate logo and a new website in the works with a new packaging style. This is going to be quite a departure from anyone else here in Steamboat.
